From the idea to cooperation

More than 50 years ago, the hotel cooperation Ringhotels was launched by around 100 forward-thinking and innovative hoteliers. On January 25, 1973, the time had come: the new cooperation was officially founded in Berlin with 98 members.

The association, which has proved its worth over the past five decades, was based on a simple idea: together we are stronger than alone, especially when it comes to standing up to the hotel chains pushing into the market. Since then, the Ringhotels have stood for traditional hospitality with a regional character, authentic hosts and high-quality service and are a home for independent, privately run hotels.

The 2020s

Petra Weindl becomes Managing Director of the Ringhotels in mid-2023. Since the beginning of 2024, Volker Dürr from the Ringhotel Hohenlohe in Schwäbisch Hall has served as President of the cooperation. Rainer Kerssen from the Ringhotel Teutoburger Wald in Tecklenburg is his deputy. Numerous Ringhotels are using the Corona break for renovation and conversion measures. The cooperation presents its new brand identity.

The 2010s

“Genuine HeimatGenuss erleben” will be the new brand essence of Ringhotels. The cooperation thus picks up on the trend theme of travel in Germany. Following a guest survey, “Paul the Bee” becomes the new Ringhotels mascot. In 2017, Ringhotels becomes a member of the Global Alliance of Private Hotels (GAPH) and all cooperation members can be booked worldwide via one platform. Bernd Kanzow succeeds Jan Pauls as President of Ringhotels in 2018. The digital guest directory is also introduced this year and the Ringhotels loyalty programme is modernized in 2019. The Ringhotels Card is now also available in silver and gold - including many new attractive non-cash and hotel rewards.

The 2000s

Ringhotels enters into partnerships with foreign hotel cooperations in neighboring European countries as part of “Partner Hotels Europe” and Bernd Riepe becomes President in 2003. He is succeeded by Marc Arendt in 2008. The cooperation celebrates its 30th anniversary. In 2004, the Ringhotels customer loyalty program becomes an online-based bonus program. Ringhotels becomes socially involved and becomes a donation partner of Dolphin Aid. The Mystery Check for internal quality control becomes mandatory for all Ringhotels. It is carried out every two years by external consultants.

The 90s

In 1995, Jürgen Kahlcke is President of Ringhotels, followed by Jürgen Donner in 1999. The Ringhotels logo is given a new design. The Panorama Hotel in Oberwiesenthal becomes the first East German hotel to join the cooperation. An internal quality consultation for the Ringhotels is introduced in order to continuously improve the standard of the affiliated hotels. A customer loyalty program is launched for regular guests. The cooperation goes online in 1998: At ringhotels.de, users can find information on all Ringhotels and book rooms directly.

The 80s

The first reservation system is introduced in the Ringhotels service office. This allows rooms to be booked in all Ringhotels in Munich. In 1983 Jens Peters becomes the new president of the association and in 1987 Fritz Dreesen is the new president of the Ringhotels. The guest magazine “Comfortable auf Reisen” is published for the first time, providing information about individual hotels and vacations in Germany. To this day, the guest magazine, now published under the title “Heimat & Genuss”, encourages guests to discover and experience Germany with the Ringhotels.

The 70s

Norbert Gruber becomes president of the association. The first complete directory of all Ringhotels is published for the first time. The popular member directory is still published 40 years later in an annually updated version. And the brochure wall with information on each individual hotel is introduced in the Ringhotels, which to this day provides our guests with valuable inspiration for future travel destinations with Ringhotels.
